About

Would you like to be part of Team WCW this year?

On Sunday 22nd May 2022, Team WCW will be taking on the RNLI Mayday Miles challenge by joining in on the Wirral Coastal Walk, walking your choice of 4,8, or 12 miles along the Wirral Coastal path from New Brighton to Thurstaston

This year we are joined by wonderful family of Sam Capper, aged 15, from Rock Ferry who tragically died in hospital after falling into the sea when a wave hit him in Llangennith, Swansea, in 2012.  His older brother Lewis jumped in after Sam, a pupil at University Academy in Birkenhead, and held onto him before being rescued by an RAF rescue helicopter and Burry Port lifeboat.

The family fundraise every year with the Sam Capper Memorial Day which also takes place on Sunday, May 1 at Victoria Park Cricket Club in Rock Ferry from 12pm

If you would like to take part in the Wirral Coastal Walk for the RNLI, Join our team. We will be leaving at 9am.

  1. Register your place with the  Wirral Rotary Club Club beforehand or on the day at Floral Pavillion, New Brighton
  2. Join the ‘Wirral Coastal Walk’ Team Mayday Miles page, setting up your own page, anyone who raise +£55 will receive an RNLI Medal
  3. Join us from 8.30am at Floral Pavillion on 22nd May to leave at 9am– Wear Yellow!

150 people drown in UK and Irish waters every year. And this summer, thousands of people will get into danger by the water. Ordinary people enjoying days out with family or friends. It happens so easily, and it could happen so easily to one of us or to someone we love.

The RNLI are determined to be there when they're needed most. Usually, RNLI lifesavers answer mayday calls and go to rescue others. But, this May, it's them who are asking for OUR help.

So I'm answering the call by taking part in the Mayday Mile to help make sure these brave lifesavers have the kit and training they need to save lives and keep families safe this summer.
