My Story

150 people drown in UK and Irish waters every year. And this summer, thousands of people will get into danger by the water. Ordinary people enjoying days out with family or friends. It happens so easily, and it could happen so easily to one of us or to someone we love.

This May, I will be cycling 102 miles for the RNLI. 102 miles on a bike may not sound like a lot to an All-Weather cyclist, but for me it is! It’s also not only about the distance, but the time I will need to dedicate to this. I am already very busy with work, a young family as well as my other RNLI Fundraising duties, so to fit time in for cycling will be a challenge! But this time dedication is but a drop in the ocean compared to the time dedicated by our incredible crews; Mums and Dads who drop everything at the sound of a pager and selflessly race to assist those in peril on the sea.

Why 102 miles? For the Mayday Mile, Littlehampton has partnered with Basingstoke Inshore Fundraising Branch. The distance from Littlehampton to Basingstoke is 51 miles, so effectively I will be cycling from Littlehampton to Basingstoke, and back again!

I wont be on my own either. I am being joined by two other fantastic volunteers who will run 51 miles each over the course of the month.

The RNLI are determined to be there when they're needed most. Usually, RNLI lifesavers answer mayday calls and go to rescue others. But, this May, it's them who are asking for OUR help.

So I'm answering the call by taking part in the Mayday Mile to help make sure these brave lifesavers have the kit and training they need to save lives and keep families safe this summer.
